This first intervention will take place in Taranto, Puglia, and will involve the Post Disaster collective (founded by Gabriele Leo, Gabriella Mastrangelo, Grazia Mappa, and Peppe Frisino) as architects, and performers, activists, and researchers Silvia Calderoni and Ilenia Caleo as advisors. Post Disaster Rooftops EP04, the fourth episode of the Post Disaster Rooftops project, interprets rooftops as unconventional urban spaces – suspended between public and private – freed from the primary hegemonic forms of control. From the rooftops of Taranto’s Old City, it is possible to immediately recognize of the effects of the crisis (environmental, economic, social…) and, at the same time, to collectively imagine alternative futures through continuous shifts in perspective between the real and the possible. “Italy is a constellation of fragile territories,” underlines Fosbury Architecture. “For some, catastrophe is sadly a cyclical event, for others an inescapable future, and for yet others, it would seem to have already happened. Coexisting with disaster is an issue that architects and planners can no longer shy away from, instead needing to imagine projects that attempt to concretely confront it.” Overall, the project for the Italian Pavilion is based on Fosbury Architecture’s vision of Architecture as a research practice beyond the construction of buildings and Design as the result of collective and collaborative work that goes beyond the idea of the architect-author. “Space” is seen, in this view, as a physical and symbolic place, a geographical area and abstract dimension, a system of known references and a territory of possibilities. In the period from January to April preceding the opening of the Biennale Architettura 2023, “Spaziale presenta” will monitor the activation of nine site-specific interventions in as many places, each representative of the Italian territory. “Spaziale: Everyone Belongs to Everyone Else,” in the Italian Pavilion from May 20 to November 26, 2023, will be the formal and theoretical synthesis of the processes triggered in the nine regions in the previous months, providing a distinctive and original portrait of Italian architecture within the international context. The works in progress of “Spaziale presenta” and the activation of the nine interventions will be narrated step by step on the website www.spaziale2023.it and on the Instagram account @spaziale.presenta. The curatorial design of the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale Architettura 2023 and all related details will be announced at a dedicated press conference (February/March 2023).
